We got to sleep in today, which was a welcome change of pace. When we finally got moving, we decided to go to lunch together near the stadium. We ate family style, which has quickly become my favorite way to eat here. Everything comes out to the center of the table and we all share.
After lunch we had some time to walk around the shopping area near the venue for the Nike China High School Basketball Championship. It was a good way to kill time before the games. It was quite crowded due to the games, but walking through stores (for me, Minis and Nike) was fun! Nike was very crowded because of a professional basketball player stopping by before the game.
Then we headed in for the games. One of my favorite parts of the day was the intros of each game. We had light sticks at every seat, and they were all coordinated to the music and the graphics on the court. It was honestly unlike anything I had ever seen before, and it’s hard to believe it was for high school games. The girls played first, and the team we were rooting for pulled through with the win. The boys game followed, and our team came through again with an amazing comeback and nail-biter ending. There is something about being at a live game, that is so much more fun than watching from the couch at home or from the control room.
Dinner was with some of the group after, which was a nice way to wind down. Everyone was still talking about the games, going back and forth on different players. Then we took the subway back to the hotel after grabbing dessert from Paris Baguette. At this point navigating the transit system here is starting to feel a little more second nature! Finally getting back to the hotel felt good, and it was much needed. We still have a couple days of Beijing!
